Catalina Jazz Club

Catalina Jazz Club opened on October 23, 1986, when Romanian-born Catalina Popescu and her husband Bob launched a supper club on the advice of legendary jazz flutist Buddy Collette, who played the opening night. In the nearly four decades since, the club has presented an extraordinary roster of jazz royalty: Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Ray Brown, Joe Williams, Max Roach, Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, Ron Carter, Joe Henderson, Benny Carter, Tony Williams, and many others. Clint Eastwood, Dionne Warwick, Joe Pesci, Prince, and Iman and David Bowie have all been spotted in the room. Los Angeles Magazine calls it the destination for top names in mainstream and contemporary jazz in the city. The venue is a supper club in the proper sense: dinner service begins at 7 PM on weekdays and 6 PM on Sundays, and the performance starts at 8:30 PM on most nights, with a 10 PM second show on Sundays. The entertainment charge is separate from food and beverage, and an entree or two-item minimum applies per person. This is not a listening room where you quietly sip water; it is a full dining and entertainment experience designed to feel like an occasion. The room accommodates 250 guests and is accessed through a parking structure off McCadden Avenue, tucked into the interior courtyard of the building at 6725 West Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. All ages are welcome. The programming runs Tuesday through Sunday weekly, making it one of the most active jazz rooms in Southern California by days of operation.
