Grant Grill and Lounge

The Grant Grill and Lounge at the US Grant Hotel is one of the oldest and most storied dining and cocktail destinations in downtown San Diego, operating continuously since 1951 at the corner of Broadway and 4th Avenue in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. The restaurant's history is itself worth knowing: it was an exclusively male establishment for nearly two decades, until a group of female attorneys staged a yearlong sit-in in 1969 that finally opened its doors to all, with a plaque outside the entrance now honoring that act of resistance. Today the Grill operates as a AAA Four Diamond restaurant serving seasonal California cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a cocktail program of national acclaim that has been recognized by the Food Network. The lounge, adjacent to the dining room, transforms into a live music room on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights starting at 8pm, featuring the city's most talked about local jazz, blues, soul, and rock artists in a setting of mahogany wood paneling, sophisticated white linens, and warm cocktail bar lighting. The Lounge is noted among Gaslamp Quarter nightlife as a unique gem for adult listeners who want to experience first-rate local performers alongside expertly crafted seasonal cocktails without the volume and crowd of a dedicated club venue. No cover is required to enter the lounge for live music, though the space pairs naturally with the full dining and cocktail experience. The lounge is open daily from 3pm to 11pm, making it accessible as a pre-dinner, post-theater, or standalone evening destination. Reservations for the restaurant can be made through OpenTable or by phone; the lounge operates without formal reservations for non-dining guests.
