Kulak's Woodshed

Kulak's Woodshed is unlike anything else in Los Angeles or, for that matter, anywhere else in the world. Founded in 1999 by Paul Kulak in a small space at 5230 1/2 Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood, the Woodshed has grown into a 49-seat listening room, live recording studio, and pioneering multi-camera webcast venue that has been run entirely by volunteers and kept alive entirely by audience donations since the beginning. There is no bar, no alcohol, no drugs, and no cover charge. Artists range from first-time performers to Grammy winners, and every single show is recorded in 24-track Pro Tools audio and streamed live to a worldwide audience. Self-serve snacks, soft drinks, tea, and coffee are available. The space is pet-friendly and all ages are welcome. Open mic runs on Mondays; showcases fill Tuesday through Sunday. Attending a show at Kulak's Woodshed is one of the most purely music-focused experiences available in Los Angeles, a place where nothing exists except the performer, the audience, and the song.
