The Arlene Francis Center

The Arlene Francis Center is one of the most genuinely distinctive live music and arts venues in Northern California, a nonprofit community hub in Santa Rosa's historic Railroad Square and West End Districts that operates on the conviction that art, spirit, and politics are inseparable and that live performance is one of the most powerful tools for building a more just and connected world. Founded by Peter Gabel in honor of his mother, the legendary Broadway and television personality Arlene Francis, the Center hosts an eclectic and deeply community-rooted calendar of concerts, comedy shows, theatrical productions, poetry slams, film screenings, workshops, and forums that reflect its mission at every turn. The room itself is intimate and flexible, with a cozy stage, clear sound, art on the walls, and a layout that shifts easily between seated listening, standing concert, and community gathering formats. The music programming runs wide and deep, from indie rock and punk to folk, metal, jazz, gothic, and experimental, with a strong emphasis on local and regional acts alongside emerging touring artists. Past performers have included original and tribute acts across multiple genres, and the venue has become a trusted home for independent booking collectives like Sinister Sounds and Bitter End Booking that bring underground and alternative music to North Bay audiences. Doors typically open at 7pm with shows at 8pm, and most events are all ages with modest cover charges. This is the kind of venue where something genuinely surprising is always possible, and where the audience, the artists, and the mission all feel like part of the same conversation.
