The Grand on State

The Grand on State is a genuine jazz club on the 1200 block of State Street, right next to the Granada Theatre. Pianist Brian Mann and his wife, Jenna Berg, built it around a Steinway grand in a sound-treated listening room where tables circle the stage and the music is the main event, not background noise. A French chef turns out a menu designed to go with the music, and wine and dessert carry the night late. Thursday through Saturday bring ticketed shows featuring the house band, top local players, and a visiting artist series of nationally known jazz musicians. The audience is attentive, mixed in age, and there to listen.
